Product Description
Zongshen 6-Speed Gear Position Sensor / Gear Indicator Switch - CSC Z17-103
Is your motorcycle gear indicator showing the wrong gear, going blank or only working intermittently? The transmission gear-position sensor may be the source of the problem. This engine-mounted electrical switch reports which gear is selected so the motorcycle can display the gear position and, where applicable, neutral status.
Factory-style replacement for CSC RX3 Adventure (Z17-103) and CSC RX4 Adventure (Z408-105). The two CSC sensors were physically compared and found identical. This listing uses one SKU: Z17-103.
What Does a Gear Position Sensor Do?
As the transmission selector moves through neutral and the six forward gears, the gear-position switch provides position information to the motorcycle electrical/instrument system. The gear indicator can then show the selected gear. This is an electrical sensing part, not the gearshift lever, shift drum or an internal gearbox repair component.
Signs of a Bad Gear Position Sensor
Depending on the motorcycle and the cause of the fault, symptoms may include:
- Gear indicator is blank, missing or not showing a selected gear
- Wrong gear number appears on the instrument cluster
- Gear display gets stuck on one position or skips a position
- Gear indication flickers or works intermittently, including after riding in wet conditions
- Neutral light fails to illuminate, stays on incorrectly, or shows an inconsistent neutral reading
These symptoms are not proof that the sensor has failed. Loose or corroded connectors, damaged wiring, cluster/instrument faults, or other neutral-indicator circuit problems can produce similar behavior.
What Can Replacing the Sensor Fix?
When a worn or defective sensor is the actual cause, installing the correct replacement can restore accurate gear-position display, stable readings as you change gears, and correct neutral indication on systems that receive neutral status from this switch. Replacing the sensor will not repair hard shifting, slipping gears, clutch adjustment problems, or mechanical transmission damage. Check the connector and wiring before ordering.
Confirmed CSC Fitment and Part Numbers
- CSC RX3 Adventure: Z17-103; Zongshen OEM reference 88031-ME30-020450
- CSC RX4 Adventure: Z408-105; physical match to the Z17-103 stocked sensor
Single stocked item: Z17-103 is the sales/inventory SKU; Z408-105 is the alternate CSC service-part reference.
Additional Zongshen Six-Speed Engine Cross-Reference Research
International parts catalogs use 88031-ME30-020450 for certain AKT 250TT / 250TT EFI gear-indicator applications. Other NC250 / ZS177MM, NC300S / ZS182MN and NC450 / ZS194MQ engine catalogs document a related six-speed gear-indicator assembly, 100104494-0001, described as a 6G-D99 interface with a 550 mm harness. This number appears in selected GPX FSE, BHR, BSE and Zuumav engine-parts documentation. These are research cross-references and do not independently guarantee this stocked sensor fits every vehicle using those engines.
Kove 450 Rally - Possible Application, Not Confirmed Direct Fit
Kove 450 Rally documentation specifies related sensor 100104494-0015 with a 6G-D99 interface and a 500 mm harness, versus 550 mm documented for 100104494-0001. The extra 50 mm of cable may be manageable if the sensor face, plug, wiring/pinout and mounting match; direct interchange has not been verified. Route any excess cable away from heat and moving parts.
How to Check Before Ordering
Compare your original part number and sensor contact face, mounting points, connector shell, electrical pinout and harness routing/length. Do not assume every six-speed NC250/NC300S/NC450 or Kove sensor is interchangeable based on engine family or a similar-looking plug alone.
Included
One transmission gear-position sensor assembly as photographed. Motorcycle, instrument cluster and other electrical components are not included.
Gear Indicator Troubleshooting - Common Questions
Why does my gear indicator show the wrong gear? A faulty position sensor can send the wrong signal, but the connector, wiring or display may also be responsible.
Will this fix a neutral light that does not work? It may, if this switch supplies the neutral signal on your motorcycle and the sensor itself is faulty. Diagnose the circuit first.
Will this fix a motorcycle that will not shift gears? No. The gear-position sensor reports gear selection; it does not control mechanical gear engagement.
